Home Away From Home

“Home away from Home – Migrations: a permanent state in the XXI century” (2016), reflects upon the city of Miami and its multicultural identity, welcoming immigrants from many different backgrounds. This grand-scale immersive installation consists of a mirrored house that blends in with its surroundings, including visitors in its reflection. Inside, there is space for light to come filter through perforations, alluding to a bright future and life in the city and is a metaphor for the city as a welcoming home. This project poetically renders homage to the notion of migration and its constant negotiation with identity, nostalgia, mourning and the concept of the diaspora.
